Our First Anniversary

Happy Monday!

This weekend was nice, but also feeling a little homesick. It was mine and Tj's first wedding anniversary and he is home in Canada with our friends and family and I am stuck here on the other side of the world all alone and sad. When I first found out he was going to be gone for work and he got to squeeze in a trip home I actually cried and told him not to stop in Ottawa haha. I got over it really quick, but I was still super jealous that he gets to see everyone and my dogs!

I've already posted a lot of our wedding pictures in these previous posts:

Wedding Details

Apparently, the weather in Ottawa has been crap this weekend, which makes me appreciate how lucky we got last year. The weather was the perfect start to a perfect day.

I had fun just now looking through all the pictures again. I feel so much love for all of our friends and family!! The people who travelled and took time off work to be there, and everyone who helped out so much. They are the reason why we chose to have a big wedding in the first place. We wanted to be surrounded by all the people who mean the most to us. I kept saying after the wedding that one of the weirdest things was seeing all these different people from all the different parts of our lives together and hanging out. I would find the most random group of friends and family doing the limbo on the dance floor or talking (*smoking) in groups outside. And it was freaking awesome! We know (and are related to) some pretty cool people and I'm glad we were able to get them all together. It was overwhelming in the best way where everywhere I turned there was someone else I knew and actually wanted to talk to haha. Now if you haven't already, hurry up and come visit us!

Now to my husband (still feels weird using that word!). Tj actually referred to me as his girlfriend when we were shopping a few weekends ago so I guess it's still weird for him too haha. Our first year of marriage has been the easiest yet! We moved to the other side of the world and had to restart our lives, finding a new place to live, finding a new job (me), and building a home in a new city that neither of us had ever been to before. There have been some ups and downs, but the best part has been becoming best friends (and not just because we don't have any other friends haha). We balance each other's craziness and I love that I'm still learning new things about you. You are late for everything and when we do groceries you always disappear when it's time to check out, but you are the best at wiping down the stove and you get just as excited for Survivor as I do.

I wrote the whole ceremony and we took care to use words that really reflected what we wanted out of this whole marriage thing. Here is a snippet from our wedding vows:

I promise to be grateful for our love and our life

To be generous with my time, energy and attention

To fill our life with adventure and our home with laughter

To encourage and inspire you to grow as an individual

I will give you respect, love, and loyalty

through all of our lives together.

Happy 1st Anniversary :)
