Harry Potter in Concert

Happy Monday!

TJ and I had a great weekend. The weather was perfect. Sunny but not too warm. I love that the days are getting longer. Even if it didn’t get that cold here during winter, it’s hard when you wake up and it’s dark and you go home after work in the dark. It’s Sunday night now and our apartment gets the best light in the evenings, and it’s so nice to sit here and work on this post while watching Survivor :)

On Saturday Tj and I went to see Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban in concert with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra

I am a huge Harry Potter fan so this was awesome. And Tj loves the orchestra. Something you probably don’t know about Tj is that he loves listening to movie scores. He was quizzing us one time and I was like how would anyone ever know what this random music is from, but Lisa (Tj’s sister) got most of them right! They are so related. But the only movie theme song I would ever recognize is Harry Potter, so it was nice that this event offered something for both of us.

The event was at the Melbourne Convention Exhibition Centre and our tickets cost $55 each. Pricey but worth it for an afternoon event. The whole thing was about three hours total, and there was an intermission halfway through. The only annoying thing was the line at the concession stand during intermission was so long.

They played the movie with sound and subtitles, but all of the music was performed by the orchestra. They even had a large choir performing with them. It was truly magical, especially during exciting action scenes. Tj kept forgetting that the music was live and said he wished he had watched the orchestra more.

The best part was the audience! It was such a good crowd. Everyone laughed and cheered along with the movie. I even saw quite a few people dressed up in robes or Hogwarts house colours!

Afterwards, we went for a drink and tea along Melbourne’s Southbank and then we stopped at the casino since we were right there lol. We walked away winners and took ourselves to dinner at a restaurant we’ve been wanting to try! It was the perfect end to a great day.

On Sunday we enjoyed a day in our neighbourhood. I was feeling a little sad because I saw a Christmas tree in a store and I haven’t had my own Christmas tree since we left Toronto. I miss Christmas! It’s just not the same feeling when it’s Christmas in the summer. I think it’s time to get my Christmas playlist on repeat and find my holiday spirit lol.

Hope you have a great week! Check in on Wednesday to see some pictures from our trip to Western Australia!

P.S. I’m a Gryffindor!
