Long Weekend Festivals!

Moomba Festival

Last Saturday was a little lazy, but we made up for it on Sunday. After going for breakfast and to the Prahran Market, we joined a gym! And then we worked out. I'd say we only put in medium effort that day lol, because we knew there was a lot we wanted to check out that afternoon. (Update: as I am writing this I am sooooo sore from the gym so I guess it was more than medium effort)

First up was the Moomba Festival. Melbourne's Moomba festival went on all weekend along the Yarra River and Alexandra Gardens. It was definitely a good family event. There were lots of kids and no drinking. It was a lot of fun but we didn't stay that long. There were carnival rides, games and food trucks. Tj played a ring toss game and tried to win me a prize but no luck. And then he tried again but still no luck. He was really close though lol. The festival also has competitions for watersports, scoot (scooters), skate, and BMX. We got to see some women's water ski jumping which was so cool to watch. They made it look so easy, especially the landings! But we were getting hungry so it was off to our next stop!

Port Philip Mussel and Jazz Festival

Next we went to the Port Phillip Mussel and Jazz festival at the South Melbourne Market. It was a seafood street party. This festival was a little smaller than I was expecting, and I was disappointed the market was closed. I had been hoping it was going to stay open later for festival. I don’t eat seafood, but Tj was really excited when we got there and saw all the food stands! There was a really yummy looking Nutella gnocchi but I still can't have chocolate until Easter! I found some French Fries to eat but they weren't the greatest (they sucked!). Tj  started with a mussel curry and then had paella. We got lucky and found a place to sit right in front of the stage.

The jazz band the Pearly Shells were playing. They were so good! There was a woman performing with them that night but I didn't catch her name. She was incredible though. And the crowd was so much fun! At first there was only a father and young kid dancing. Then an old woman joined in and she was such a good dancer, she got everyone up on their feet. There were so many people of all ages just having fun with the music. I wish I could add videos to this blog so you could see. I loved it and was really glad we went.

We went home to watch some more movies but instead we ended up going to see the movie Red Sparrow at the theatre right next to our apartment! The movie has been getting mixed reviews, but we both really enjoyed it. And movie theatre popcorn!

I've said it before but I'll say it again - there is always so much going on in this city! We felt like we should've travelled over the long weekend, but were so happy we were able to find such cool stuff to do in our city.

We have some more guests coming in a few weeks so we are super excited for that and we are already starting to make plans for the Easter long weekend.

Have a great day :)
