My Favourite Podcasts

Happy Wednesday!

This week is going by a little slowly for me. Next Monday is a holiday here, so Tj and I are thinking of renting a car and going on a little road trip. It's officially Autumn here too, which just feels so weird. It's still warm, but I have noticed it's getting dark a little bit earlier. I guess I shouldn't complain since I've pretty much had two summers in a row.

The other day I was doing laundry and I hang dry everything on a rack on the balcony. We got used to not having a dryer when we were in London and I actually prefer to hang dry a lot of my clothes. Except for socks. Crunchy socks are never fun. Anyways, I brought all the clothes inside to fold and… a spider crawled out of the clothes! I'm not really scared of spiders, but it was a little creepy so I made sure to shake everything really well after that. That's the first Australian spider I've seen! I'm sure it was fine, but I feel like everything here might be poisonous so I used a sock to bring it back outside and flung it over the balcony lol. I'll have to shake everything more carefully from now on.

When I am doing chores like laundry, or cooking, or going on a walk, I like to listen to podcasts. I first got into them on the long drives between Ottawa and Toronto. I love audiobooks too, but podcasts are nice because they are shorter and less of a time commitment and so easy to download right on your phone. I listen to some really trashy ones for behind the scenes gossip on shows like the Bachelor, but I'm trying to listen to more informative ones.

Here are my top 5 podcasts:

  1. Serial (season 1): This was the first podcast I listened to and it was so addictive! I tell everyone they have to give it a shot. And afterwards I love discussing and dissecting and hearing what they think. I actually listened to it twice, and I went through the same roller coaster of feelings. Did he do it? Didn't he do it? Listen and see which way you sway!
  2. How I Built This with Guy Raz: I just started listening to this one recently, and I find it so interesting. Guy Raz interviews people to get the stories behind their companies and how they started their businesses. I haven't been listening in order, I just choose ones that sound interesting to me. So far I like Five Guys, Patagonia, and Spanx!
  3. From the Heart: Conversations with Yoga Girl - I don't know how I found Yoga Girl on Instagram, but she always posts pictures of herself doing really hard yoga poses on the beach. What first grabbed my attention were the captions to her photos. She always writes very honestly about her feelings in the moment and in the world of Instagram, I found her very refreshing. Her podcast is the same. She manages to tell stories that tie back into her message perfectly. And I actually got to meet her in London so I feel like we are friends :)
  4. Canadian True Crime Podcast - This podcast is hosted by an Australian who lives in Canada! She does the podcast in her spare time, and does an in-depth look at some Canadian true crime cases. Most of them I'd heard of but never really knew what happened. Interesting, but not something I like to listen to before bed. I hope she does something on this new serial killer case developing in Toronto.
  5. Fiction Podcasts - I guess fiction podcasts are like old radio shows, or short audiobooks. Nice change from the other podcasts I listen to. Here are some good ones I've found
    1. Homecoming - This is a fiction podcast starring David Schwimmer. It's a bit of a psychological thriller with a really interesting twist!
    2. The Message - Tj recommended this one to me. It's about a reporter covering the decoding of a message received from space 70 years ago. Loved it!
    3. Life After - This is from the same producers as The Message. It's about a rogue computer program that learns to reanimate the personalities of the deceased to communicate with their loved ones. It was really interesting and kind of scary when you think of where technology could be headed.

Other ones I listen to sometimes are Stuff You Should Know, S-Town, Atlanta Monster, Off the Vine with Kaitlyn Bristowe, Straight up with Stassi, and The Almost Famous Podcast with Ashley and Ben (don't judge me). When I was working on this post I found a whole bunch of new podcasts I would like to try! I'll let you know if any of them are any good.

Most of the podcasts I listen to have been recommended to me by someone, so I'd love to hear if you have any suggestions! I'm always looking for something new to listen to :)
