State Library Victoria

Happy Thursday!

We definitely tried to make the most of our long weekend in Melbourne! Both Friday and Monday were Easter holidays. We would've liked to travel but everywhere was so expensive, so we decided to rent a car and do some day trips.

Well that was kind of a mistake. It didn't save us any money because we got two (yes two!) parking tickets! We got one at the surf competition on Saturday and we woke up on Sunday morning and we had another! We have parking in our building but it's car stackers so you need to pay for an induction and training, which we haven't done yet. So we parked on the street in front of our building, apparently in the one spot that you can't park past midnight even on a weekend or holiday. It was not fun walking to the car and finding ANOTHER ticket! SO frustrating. It was easy to make the mistakes we did, but Australia does not mess around. When we were driving back from Torquay on Saturday night we also got stopped in a road block and they made every driver take a breathalyzer! I've never seen that before. It's good to keep the roads safe, but it was very intense even if we had nothing to worry about. So by the time we got the ticket the next morning we were starting to feel frustrated.

There have been a lot of ups and downs over the past few weeks in particular. Living abroad is not always easy. The job search was really getting to me, and just when I was feeling my lowest and planning a trip to Canada to cheer myself up, I got two job offers on the same day! Not a bad problem to have, but it was such a stressful decision for me to make. Adulting is hard LOL. I started my new job this week and it's going great :) I don't even miss my daily naps… well maybe just a little bit.

On Sunday after we found our parking ticket we went for breakfast and then did a bit of shopping. We stopped at the State Library Victoria which is one of the places I've been wanting to check out. The State Library Victoria is Australia's oldest public library and was established in 1854. It was one of the first free libraries in the world.

It was so pretty! It was packed which was nice to see, and there were a lot of tourists there. I definitely want to go back and check it out again when we have more time to explore and sign up for a library card. They had a few exhibits there and so many books. Even Tj was impressed.

I'm a little sad that I won't be heading home next week (I miss the dogs!) but I am loving my new work and once I am more settled it will be nice to plan our next holiday :)

Hope you are having a good week so far!
