Travel Throwback Thursday: Chamonix!

Happy Thursday!

Today's post is about the weekend Tj and I spent in Chamonix, France in January 2016. We went on this little trip for Tj's birthday, and also to cross something off my bucket list.

I had saved these photos on Pintrest for years, and when Tj suggested we go to Chamonix, and I realised that's where these photos were from I was super excited! I couldn't believe we were going to get to do these things I had dreamed of! Little did I know...

(First photo is by Lu Chien-Ping from here. The second photo is saved from here)

We actually flew into Geneva from London and took a car transfer to France. It was about an hour's drive, and I remember the driver telling me that the tap water in Chamonix was like drinking Evian haha.

When I started writing today's post I realized I hardly have any pictures from this trip! That's because the weather sucked. It was so brutal. It was early winter so it was cold, but foggy and pouring rain and just miserable. I had booked tickets to go up Mont Blanc to the lookout and it was closed every day. All the tourist attractions were closed. We still had a great time though, I just don't really have any pictures to prove it. Here are some of my top memories of that trip:

  • This is the first (and maybe only) time we used our selfie stick hahaha. It came in handy when there was no one around to take pictures of us, but we felt so silly.
  • We went to a really nice dinner one night. It was an Asian fusion restaurant that Tj picked out. It was really good, but while we were walking back to the hotel after, Tj saw a McDonald's and got a craving and picked up a double cheeseburger haha. With fries!
  • At another restaurant we went to, Tj had the best spaghetti Bolognese he's ever had. When I asked him what he remembered from our Chamonix trip that was the first thing he said.
  • We ended up at the casino a few times. We definitely didn't win.
  • The tap water was delicious, as promised.
  • When we were walking from the first hotel to the second hotel we got lost using google maps and it took us forever.
  • Our second hotel had the best spa! It was the best feeling coming back soaking wet after walking around town and going straight to the spa. It was free for hotel guests and surprisingly, it wasn't that busy.
  • On the way back to London we had a few hours in Geneva. We stopped for a coffee/tea at the most expensive Starbucks I've ever been to in my life!

Last summer we had actually been planning a trip to go back to Chamonix so I could do all those things from my bucket list. We were going to go to Southern France, stop by Italy, and go to Switzerland. But that's also when we got the news about moving to Australia. So even though we already had our flights booked (booked way in advance to get a really good deal), we changed our whole trip really last minute to do our Tuscany - Croatia - Greece trip and go some places new.

It's still on my list to go back there someday though...

Have a great day :)
