One Day in Sydney

Happy Wednesday!

After an awesome visit to Australia, Jacob left this morning to make the trip home. He still owes me a blog post by the way. He was supposed to write it over the weekend, but we were away for a few days and there was no time. And he has assured me that he will have better travel tips after another really long travel day haha. We'll see. Maybe his top travel tips will include the story of how he lost his passport in Australia the night before our trip! More on that to come later…

But seriously we just had the best little getaway, all thanks to Tj! He did a great job planning a last minute holiday for us and it seriously made Jacob's whole trip. And it was awesome for me too because this is the most travelling I've done since I moved here.

Our trip started with one day in Sydney. We woke up stupid early to catch our short flight (just over an hour). We arrived in Sydney bright and early and made our way to our hotel in Surrey Hill. We were so happy we were able to check in early and drop off our bags. We grabbed a coffee (not as good as Melbourne) and walked around all day.

First stop was Darling Harbour. Actually, that's a lie. First stop was lunch. We found a yummy Thai place and got there just before the lunch hour rush. It was pretty good, but Tj kept making Jacob laugh so hard he spit out his water like three times. Then we had to leave because it was pretty unappetizing hahaha.

It was a gorgeous sunny day and there were so many people out and about. We walked past the Sea Life Sydney Aquarium which I went to years ago but it didn't look familiar at all.

Next, we took a ferry to Circular Quay. It's the famous Sydney Harbour, with views of the Sydney Opera House and the Sydney Harbour Bridge. We shared a bottle of wine from Opera Bar and sat for a while and watched people and took in the views.

We walked back to the hotel and it was time for me to have a nap! Tj and Jacob went to pub for happy hour and met some really sketchy characters. They came back and napped too and Tj was so tired he almost didn't wake up for dinner.

We walked around a bit to find a good place to eat. Tj had a few recommendations. We put our names down at this Japanese place but the wait was an hour and a half. We found some really good Italian food down the street and ate way too much. It was a pretty early night because we had to wake up the next morning at 4:30 again for our next flight! There was no sleeping in on this trip at all.

We had less than 24 hours in Sydney, but we tried to make the most of it. We really enjoyed walking around and exploring. We were all really impressed with how pretty the city was. Tj and I can't wait to go back when the weather is a bit better because we want to see the famous Bondi Beach and explore the rest of the city.

Where were we off to next? Come back next week to find out :)
