Travelling with Books
Happy Wednesday!
I’m switching things up a little this week because I have a special post planned for Friday, so today is my regular weekly book post.
I leave in just a few days for Canada and I could not be more excited. Tjs parents arrive in Australia tomorrow morning so I had to make sure I was already packed before they get here. This was super easy for me because I’m sure I’ve told you before that I like to start packing really early and then ‘edit’ over a few days and take things out. Packing for Canada is even easier because all my cold weather gear is already there so I don’t have to bring much. I just had to make sure there was room for a few little gifts and I had all the warm weather stuff I need for when I pop over to Punta Cana for a few days for a wedding.
My plan for tonight is to load up my iPad and phone with enough material to entertain me on the long journey home. So how appropriate to write about travelling with books.
I feel like ereaders were invented just for me so I don’t need to worry about how I am going to pack all the books in my suitcase when I go on a holiday. Trust me, this has been a dilemma in my life more than once. That’s the best part about e-readers. Endless books! For this trip, my main concern is making sure I don’t run out of reading material on the flight.
Here is my pre-travel book prep:
Have 2-3 ebooks to read (from the library or Kobo)
This includes whatever I’m reading now, and 2 book options for my next read in case I don’t like one of them. I am assuming that I will probably finish one book on the flight.
Download some National Geographic magazines
I have an e-subscription already but I want to make sure I have one ready to read because I can’t download anything on the plane. Nice to have something nonfiction to read once in a while and I love the way the photos look on the iPad screen.
Download an audiobook and podcasts
When I am flying I love listening to audiobooks. Sometimes I just want to close my eyes and try and sleep but music is too much. It’s nice to have something to listen to. For this trip, I’ve chosen The Best of Us by Sarah Pekkanen. Its about four friends who go on a trip to Jamaica together, which is perfect for my upcoming trip with my girlfriends (I also like to read books about places I’m going so this will get me excited for my island adventure!) I will also make sure I have a few interesting podcast episodes saved.
Pre-order ebooks
Ok, this is a little excessive but there are so many good books out this month! If I pre-order them they just show up on my iPad like magic :)
Pack a notebook and pen
Necessary tools in case I get inspired to do some writing of my own on when travelling.
I also save a few episodes of Netflix shows on my devices to give me additional options to whatever is offered for inflight entertainment.
Of course, all of these prep steps are slightly unnecessary for me because I usually fall asleep pretty quickly, but I'm prepared nonetheless.
