Happy Wednesday! 

I hope you are having a good week so far. Tj met me for lunch at work yesterday which was a nice treat. I took him to my new favorite bagel place.

Today the road trip continues. On our last day in Byron Bay, we started the morning off by going to see the Cape Byron Lighthouse. Here are some things I learned about it online from here: 

• The lighthouse sits on Australia's most easterly point!

• It was built in 1901 to prevent shipwrecks

• It's 22 metres high and 94 metres above sea level

• Cape Byron is one of the best whale watching points in Australia because it's along the humpback whale migration route - over 30,000 humpback whales pass the coast between June and November each year

• The traditional custodians of the land are the Bundjalung of Byron Bay, the Arakwal Bumberlin people.

We didn’t have a lot of time that morning because we wanted to hit the beach, so we decided to drive right up to the lighthouse instead of taking a two hour hike. We got super lucky with parking and found the perfect spot right away. We walked around and admired the views. The shades of blue in the water look so unreal. I never get sick of looking at the ocean. It felt pretty cool to know we were on the most easterly point of mainland Australia, just on the edge of the continent… no biggie.

As we were walking back to the car we decided to walk down a bit and check out the lookout. They actually have a camera/phone stand built in the ground, already lined up to help you get that perfect shot. 

There were some people surfing and just beyond them I spotted dolphins!

DOLPHINS!

There was a whole pod and there were easily over 50 of them. It was amazing. I tried to take pictures, but you can’t see them as well. Or at all haha. In real life it was much clearer. I wish I had seen them up close.

I was giddy like a little kid. My first ever dolphin spotting was when we did a sunset cruise in Airlie Beach when Jacob came for a visit last year. This time we were much further away but there were so many of them. I watched for a long time. Nature just amazes me sometimes.

Eventually Tj dragged me away to go to the beach and we watched people fight over our perfect parking spot as we pulled away. 

There is just a little bit more left of the Byron Bay portion of our road trip, but I’ll save those pictures for next week.
