Twilight Beach - Esperance Trip (Part 1)
Happy Monday!
I hope you all had a great weekend.
Ours was really quiet. Over the past few days, it seems like things are really blowing up over COVID-19 coronavirus. Tj and I were at the grocery store on Saturday night and an elderly lady summed it up best when she walked down the empty aisle of cleaning supplies and said, “We are not at war!” haha. When I went to the store on Wednesday, the only thing sold out was toilet paper and paper towels. By Thursday stores were also out of pasta. When I went on Saturday night, everything was gone - bread, canned goods, cereal, flour! It’s nuts.
I still have Bali stuff I want to share, but today I want to share some photos from our latest travels.
Last week Tj and I went to Esperance in Western Australia. We first heard about Esperance from a random Youtube video that Tj watched. We knew we had to go. We actually tried to go when we went to Western Australia in 2018 but the weather was cold and rainy that weekend so we decided it wasn’t worth the drive. Luckily when we went this time, the weather was perfect!
Getting There
To get to Esperance, we took a 4-hour flight from Melbourne and spent a night in Perth. The next morning we drove 8 hours to Esperance. It was totally worth it! Surprisingly the drive was very nice. The landscape along the way was different than anything I’ve ever seen before. For most of the drive we had no phone reception, so luckily the car we rented had a good navigation system.
What We Did
Beaches, all day, every day. Our days were spent beach-hopping and chasing sunsets. Western Australia is three hours behind Melbourne time right now, so we woke up early every morning. After dinner we crashed, exhausted just from being outside all day.
Where We Ate
Tj had the brilliant idea of buying a cooler so most days we packed a lunch and ate on the beach. We did have a few coffees and dinners in town and all of the places listed below are Tj approved for coffee and/or food. Just be sure to check their opening hours - many places are closed on Sunday and Monday.
Taylor St Quarters (coffee, food)
Coffee Cat (coffee)
Downtown Espresso Bar (coffee)
Cloud Eleven (coffee and treats!)
Fish Face (dinner)
Brumby’s Bakery (pies) - the staff here were so friendly and helpful! we kept going back just to talk to them
Twilight Beach
The photos today are from Twilight Beach. Twilight Beach is about a 10-minute drive from Esperance town center. This beach was stunning! The sand is very white and soft and the water was crystal clear but it was cold! This beach is different from the other city beaches because of the large rocks just offshore. In the morning we set up our beach tent, but it was too windy and it almost blew away so we had to take it down. We had fun exploring around the rocks, and Tj even went for a long run on the beach. Tj says this beach is really special, and it was one of our favourites.
We miss Esperance already! But wait until you see the rest of our trip… we loved it so much we are already trying to plan when we can go back.
