Happy Father's Day
Happy Monday and Happy Father’s Day!
I hope you had a great weekend.
Sunday was Father’s Day back in Canada (Australian Father’s Day isn’t until September). A few weeks ago I was thinking about what I wanted to write about today, and I saw a tweet about a man who created a youtube channel called Dad, how do I?. Rob Kenney created his channel because he grew up without a dad and now he wanted to share some ‘practical Dadvice for everyday tasks’. You can read more about his story here and here. People are going crazy for his simple how-to videos and dad jokes. His most popular video is where he says “I am proud of you”. Warning, don’t read the comments unless you are ready to bawl your eyes out.
This story really resonated with me because I always call my dad for this kind of advice! Or I send him a picture of something random, like the bottom of my laundry sink, or a fuse board and ask for help. For all the millions of people who are drawn to the Dad, how do I? videos, I am so lucky and grateful to have my dad that I can call and ask for practical Dadvice.
When Tj and I lived in central London, we would sometimes have a little mouse friend come to visit. The first time it happened, I was home alone and I called my dad screaming (and laughing) as I stood on a chair, terrified and the mouse ran all around me. When my dad came to visit us, he set up mousetraps everywhere. I could never put out a mousetrap myself but I was happy for my dad to try and take care of the problem. He was there a week and didn’t catch anything. But wouldn’t you know as soon as he left the little bugger came out to run around and torture me again hahaha. My dad’s traps didn’t work out but the effort was appreciated.
So happy Father’s Day to my dad, and to all the other dads, and Grandads and Grandpas and uncles and great-uncles who teach us how to do things and take care of us and love us. Today is our day to say thank you to you for all that you do for us :)
