2021 Reading Goals
Happy Friday!
I hope you are having a great week so far!
The weather has been hot and cold all week here in Melbourne, but I am really looking forward to the weekend. Tj and I are hoping to explore a new part of Melbourne we haven't really been to.
I still can't believe it's 2021 half the time. Where did 2020 go? I feel like things that happened last January happened like last week. How is it almost the Australian Open already? Has it really been a year since my family came to visit? It's crazy.
Well, 2020 was an awesome reading year for me (thanks COVID lockdown), although I definitely didn't hit my 2020 reading goals.
Some of my 2021 reading goals are recycled from last year, but I've changed them a bit based on my self-assessed reading habits from 2020.
So here are the reading goals I've set for myself in 2021:
Finish my TBR (to be read) pile
This was one of my goals from last year, but I'm repeating it since I didn't finish it haha. I have several books that I've bought that I've never gotten around to reading. I usually try and read them whenever I am waiting for something to become available from the library, but that didn't work out for me last year, because I would usually just find something else from the library that was available. This year I am going to make an effort to read at least one book from by TBR pile every month until I am all caught up.
Keep re-reading or listening to old favourites
This is another repeat goal. I really enjoyed re-visiting some of my favourite books last year. But this year I have made the goal a bit more flexible to include listening to audiobooks of books I've read before. That's because I found that last year I thought I was re-reading lots of books, but when I did my end of year book survey again I found I hadn't. I mostly listened to them. I still find it so satisfying to pick up a book I've read before and see if I love it all over again. Or sometimes I just forget what happened and want to re-read to see why I liked it in the first place haha.
Read 3 French books
This is modified from last year. I had the goal to read 5 French books and I didn't read any. This year I will aim to read 3! And I already bought the first one (it's in by TBR pile… see goal 1 haha). I was thinking I should practice reading outloud in French, but it would be better to consider getting a French audiobook because my accent is atrocious.
Read what I want, when I want.
Since I get 99% of my books from the library, I don't always get to read what I want, when I want. I have to request the book and then wait x number of weeks until it becomes available. Then all of a sudden, all of the books I have on hold will become available at the same time. It means that sometimes I will be really excited about a book, but then by the time it comes around, I don't remember why I wanted to read it. So this year I will buy more books when I feel like it so I can read something that really intrigues me when I want to. I think this is the reading goal I am most excited about!

I want to read what you are reading and what you love! If there’s anything you think I should pick up, please leave a comment :) Sometimes the books I really enjoy are ones that I never would’ve picked out myself.
