Margaret River Part 1
Happy Monday!
I hope you had a great weekend. Tj and I finally went to see the movie A Star is Born and I cried like a baby. I totally wasn't expecting to have that reaction! The weather was great this weekend and we went for a nice walk in the neighbourhood and then had dinner at a nearby Mexican restaurant we've been wanting to try.
Today's post is about our Western Australia trip. After our day on Rottnest Island, we went to Margaret River. It's about a three-hour drive from Perth.
Margaret River is known for its wineries and craft breweries. But most of them close at 5:00 pm. So we drove to Margaret River, got some groceries, checked into our hotel, and immediately jumped back in the car.
Our first stop was Vasse Felix. Of course, it was pouring rain when we arrived, so I don't have too many pictures. But Tj and our friends K and L did a wine tasting and then we had the most delicious lunch. Seriously, we were all raving about how good our food was.
Next stop was across the street to the Margaret River Chocolate Factory! This stop was mostly for me LOL. I bought the most delicious chocolate honeycomb. It was so good that everyone wanted to go back the next day to pick up more. I bought some to bring to the office and some for Tj and me to take home lol.
Our last stop that day was Beer Farm. It was still raining and it was almost closing so there weren't that many people there. But this place looked like so much fun! K said it looked like the kind of bar/brewery the band Kings of Leon would own, which totally sold me because I love them. Definitely one we would go back to.
Time to check driving on the wrong side of the road off of my Australian bucket list because I finally did it! It took me long enough, but after that first winery, I became the driver for the day. It was kind of fun! The blinker is on the other side so every time I would go to signal I would accidentally turn on the windshield wipers lol. The most annoying thing was Tj's navigation skills. I don't know if I should blame the beer or google maps, but I had to turn around like ten times because he kept telling me the wrong way to go.
That first night we were staying in Metricup, about fifteen minutes from Margaret River town. We had bought all these groceries to make a huge dinner, except we were still pretty full from our fantastic lunch. Everyone was resting or having a nap, so I went to read for a bit and warm up (still raining), and I accidentally fell asleep and slept through the night! Oops. Tj tried to wake me up for dinner at about 10:00pm, but there was no way I was waking up. I blame the time difference because it was three hours behind Melbourne.
The next morning we moved to a different apartment in Margaret River town. It was so nice! Tj always does the best job of finding us good places to stay. We had a nice coffee and tea at a lovely little café and then made our way to - surprise - another winery.
We had lunch and a wine tasting at Voyager Estate. It reminded me a little bit of Green Gables and they had a beautiful rose garden. Tj was the driver that day, so I got to have a little rosé tasting and we all shared a cheese and deli plate.
We dropped the car off and went to Brewhouse, a craft brewery that was only a ten-minute walk from where we were staying. It was raining again, but they had heaters and blankets and a nice fireplace inside.
My work friends told me that Margaret River was a must-do when visiting Western Australia and I can totally see why. I’m glad our plans changes and we had more time there because one day wouldn’t have been enough.
In between all the eating and drinking, we did actually do some exploring so check back to see some of our other Margaret River pictures in an upcoming post!
Have a great week :)
