Book Haul
Woohoo it's Fri-YAY!
Happy almost weekend! We don't have anything in particular planned yet, but one of our wedding gifts was a voucher from my friend in London for a restaurant that serves poutine! That's right! Poutine in Australia. I think we might check it out to see how it stacks up to my favourite chip wagon in Ottawa - Fritomania. I wonder if they will use real cheese curds?!
For this week's book blog post I'd thought I'd share some paper books that I've bought recently. I usually stick to ebooks from the library or from Kobo, but sometimes it's so satifying to read a good old paper book. And they are so much better to read at the beach. When Tj was traveling and took the ipad (the lost one never turned up by the way), I bought myself a new book as a little treat. The others I got when my bestie from back home surprised me with a gift certificate for my birthday! I'll tell you why I picked each one below.
Magazines/comics:
- Life Magazine - My mom sent me this in my birthday package. I can't wait to get a dog one day! I have really been thinking about getting one here because it would make me sooo happy, but it's just so much work, especially living in an apartment. My cousin suggested I try dog walking. I wish there was such thing as a dog petter LOL.
- Betty and Veronica Comic - woohoo! My mom sent me this one too :) Can't wait to read what the gang is up to haha.
- National Geographic - I have been subscribing to this since I moved to London. I got into National Geographic a lot more after hearing the speakers in Toronto. I find this magazine so interesting and I love the pictures. It's definitely different reading it on the ipad but very convenient, and they have some cool video features too.
Books:
- Two Nights by Kathy Reichs - Kathy writes the series that the Tv show Bones was based off of. I listened to a podcast where she was interviewed about this standalone book and it sounded interesting. So when I saw it at the store I thought I'd check it out! I think there's something about a cult and cults are always super creepy (and kind of interesting) to read about.
- Those Other Women by Nicola Moriarty - Not gonna lie, I was first drawn to the bright cover of this book. Nicola Moriarty is the sister of author Liane Moriarty who wrote Big Little Lies, the book that's now a TV show with Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, and many other famous people. I like it because she's Australian! I've read one of Nicola's other books before and it was ok. Didn't love it but had a great concept. So let's see what this one is like!
- The Fallen by David Baldacci - This is the third book in his Memory Man series. Great series for guys too. My dad and I listened to the audiobook on the way home from PEI last summer. This book has been on my To-Read list for a while, but there is a super long wait at the library and I have the other books in the series on Kobo, so I thought it was worth buying.
- Sapiens by Yuval Noah Harari - This book was recommended by my friend's husband. He seems to have similar interests to Tj (they are both into Space!) lol. When they were visiting back in April he was reading the second book and suggested it to us. This one also had a long wait at the library, and if Tj's going to read it too, it will be nice to have a hard copy.
Happy reading! I hope you have a great weekend. Try not to be lazy like Tj and I usually are LOL :)
