Travel Throwback Thursday: Positano
Happy Thursday!
I can't believe it's Thursday already! This week is flying by. And it's been cold! I had to bust out my toque lol.
For today's Travel Throwback Thursday, I wanted to share some pictures from when Tj and I went to Positano, Italy in May 2016. We went for my birthday and it was such a special trip. I had always had Amalfi Coast Italy on my travel bucket list, but I don't think I knew anything about it.
Tj and I flew into Naples. We took a train and then a public bus to get to Positano. The bus ride was crowded and hot, and we were squished in with our luggage as it drove on this winding, narrow road on the top of a cliff. I could see a bit of the coast but not really. We got off at a random stop on the side of the road and tried to find our hotel. It was hot and I was tired.
We got to this really cute boutique hotel and they took us up to our room and opened the curtains and balcony doors.
And I cried. I actually cried it was so beautiful! It's been two years and that view is still my screensaver on my phone. It was so unexpected and just took my breath away.
Here are some of my memories of that trip:
- Lots and lots of stairs to get down to the beach
- We went out to dinner one night and Tj stuffed himself so full he had to stop and lie on the ground haha. In the pictures he looks like a drunk guy passed out in the street but nope - he just ate too much haha
- We were in Hamburg the weekend before this trip and Tj was stressing about proposing, so I teased him missed out because he would never have a better proposal spot than Positano hahaha
- We went to Capri for the day. Some parts were very touristy but we loved walking around the little streets and we had really good gelato
- We took a chairlift up the mountain and Tj kept turning around to take pictures and I was scared we would fall out.
- When we got to the lookout we were in the clouds so we couldn't even see the view
- We did a boat tour around the island of Capri and went into the blue lagoon. That part was pretty touristy, but the boat tour itself was definitely a highlight of the trip
- To get to Sorrento we hired a shared taxi. It was a young woman driving this huge van on these crazy roads and she was awesome! She gave us a lot of tips for Sorrento too
- Tj loved the drive so much that he rented his own car when he took his parents back here a year later
- On our last night in Sorrento we ate at a seafood restaurant that Tj loved! I don't eat seafood but I remember I had the most delicious mint chocolate dessert!
