Welcome to my adventures.

I like books, baking and travel. Follow along with me as I begin my new adventure in Melbourne!

Stuff You Should Know

Stuff You Should Know

Happy Monday! I hope you had a nice weekend.

On Saturday Tj and I went to brunch at the spot rated number one in Melbourne. Meh. It was good, but not as amazing as some of the other brunches we've had. Tj ordered one of their most popular dishes and he wasn't that impressed.
After brunch, we were walking back to the station to go home and we decided to stop at the casino. Why not? It was a lot of fun because we won $250! Woohoo. We won it in 10-20 dollar increments so we were there for a while. And each hand was so exciting! It was a great afternoon and a much more successful casino trip than when we went with Jacob a few weeks ago.

We also booked a little getaway for an upcoming long weekend so that's something to look forward to!

Today I wanted to tell you about something we did last week. Last Sunday night we had the Symphony For Our World event. And then on Monday night, we went to a live taping of the podcast Stuff You Should Know.

Stuff You Should Know is one of the podcasts Tj and I both enjoy. The very first podcast we got hooked on was Serial, and then I think the second one we discovered was SYSK.

I randomly saw an ad for the event on Facebook! You know how you mention a kettle and then all of a sudden you see a million annoying ads for kettles? While this time those annoying ads actually worked! They were sold out but then they added a second earlier show starting at 5:30 pm. The event was at Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre and our tickets cost $72.90 each.

I had to hustle after work to get there and obviously because there was somewhere I needed to be the tram took forever.

The hosts, Josh and Chuck talk about random things, or stuff you should know about. They have such a good rapport and their episodes are always very interesting and informative.

The one we saw was about the Kellogg brothers and invention of Corn Flakes cereal. When they release the episode I'll add a link in case you are interested.

Here are some of our impressions from the show:

  • They swear a lot more in real life LOL
  • They had notes in front of them but I am surprised they didn't interrupt each other more during the recording
  • The guys were very clever and had some good punny jokes
  • There was a question and answer period at the end and people asked the stupidest questions (that was one of Tj's favourite parts haha). Tj was impressed at how the hosts responded to the awkward questions
  • They seemed very genuine, like how they are in the podcast is how they are in real life
  • Apparently their voices and intonation are very soothing and their podcast is known to help with anxiety and insomnia

Fun fact: Years ago in Toronto I was on a work call and the guy sounded exactly like Dave from the podcast! He sounded so much like him that I actually asked if that was him hahaha. It wasn't, but he was familiar with the podcast so he laughed. About a year later I talked to him again and immediately thought the same thing, and I said I remember you, you sound like the guy from the podcast. He was very nice and laughed again haha. I'm such a dork.

Have a great week :)
