Road Trip: Byron Bay Part 1

Road Trip: Byron Bay Part 1

Happy Monday!

I hope you had a great weekend. Actually, in Canada it's a long weekend - I'm so jealous! I could use an extra day off of work :)

This weekend we had the best weather! It was sunny and warm - didn't feel like fall/almost winter at all. Tj went kayaking on Saturday. On Sunday we went to the gym and worked way too hard haha. Then we went for a big walk and went for lunch, did some groceries, got some gelato and walked some more. By the time we got home, I was so exhausted. I had a nap but I was still very sleepy. Hopefully, our gym session doesn't wipe me out tomorrow too. We signed up for another one at 5:30 am! Oh boy.

Back to our road trip…

I am seriously missing our holiday. It's nice to write these posts and remember how much fun we had.

Byron Bay was the highlight of our road trip. We got there a week after a jazz festival, but it was still school holidays and most of the accommodations had no vacancy. Luckily we found a lovely Airbnb just a 10-15 minute drive from downtown.

It was so charming! The hosts were very nice and their attention to detail made us feel very welcomed. The property and gardens were gorgeous and don't even get me started on the night sky. We were in the country so the sky was just exploding with stars. I love that. One morning I woke up early and was having a cuppa tea on the porch when some kangaroos started hopping across the laneway. I was in heaven!! One of the highlights of my trip. And then when we were driving to town I saw a white horse playing with a yellow duck like a scene right out of a children's book. But the best animal encounter of my trip came the next day (you have to wait for my Byron Bay part 2 post).

After our night in the Gold Coast, we drove to Byron Bay. This was our shortest driving day - only about an hour. We got there in the late afternoon and got ready and went to town for dinner. We easily found parking and then walked around about to see what was going on. There were so many restaurants to choose from and lots of people were out and about. We checked out a few very talented street performers and had a nice dinner. I melted! I made the mistake of wearing a sweater to dinner. I thought it would cool off at night, but it didn't. Now I was starting to understand why the rest of Australia thinks Melbourne weather is so awful. Of course, our night ended with Baskin Robbins.

The next day we found a great café, walked around and browsed in some of the boutiques, and then headed to the Main Beach.

We found a great spot to watch the sunset although I was a little distracted watching some dogs play together on the beach haha.

We went back to town again that night and had another delicious meal. It was so much fun to just walk around and check out different performers. And this time we branched out and tried a new gelato place instead of Baskin Robbins haha.

Tj definitely loved the vibe of this town. Wait until you read about our next day in Byron Bay… I think we found our new favourite beach in Australia!

Have a great week :)
