New Year's Eve
New Year's Eve can feel so overrated. But being in a new city, I was excited to see what the celebrations were like.
It was my first New Year's Eve somewhere warm so it was nice not to have to worry about the weather or bundling up. We left at 9pm and it was still light out. It wasn't as warm as Canadian summer nights and I was starting to get a little sick, so I should have worn a warmer sweater but still - it wasn't -20 and snowing.
We found a place to have dinner one the CBD and I even splurged on a delicious coconut water mojito (cocktails are expensive here)! Then we went walking around a bit. I can't get over how busy it was. It was so nice to see so many people out and about. We found a spot along the Southbank to watch the fireworks. We were concerned though, because we didn't know exactly where in the sky the fireworks would be.
It got busier and busier as it got closer to midnight. Before I knew it the crowd started counting down and the fireworks went off right as everyone shouted Happy New Year!
It was such an impressive show. Fireworks went off from the rooftops of building all across the cbd, on both sides of the river. It was so exciting when fireworks were just going off everywhere! I felt like a kid again. It really wowed me, especially because I wasn't expecting anything like that.
It was very crowded, so afterwards we went to the casino to kill some time before taking the train home. The casino was packed. I lost, and then won, and then lost again. Tj finished the night up a bit so that was a bonus.
It was one of our best New Year's Eves ever! The next morning we saw a video of the fireworks from Sydney, so we are already thinking of going there next year.
Happy 2018!
