Top 10 Books I read in 2017
First of all, Happy Australia Day! Tj and I will be enjoying the holiday weekend by eating some Tim Tams and Vegemite. Just kidding... I'm still too scared to try vegemite. My friend Jenn and I tried it years ago, but we made the mistake of applying it like peanut butter, when you are supposed to spread it lightly, like butter. It was not good.
Since I am an avid reader, I thought I would do some book themed posts. The final count is in, and I finished the 2017 at 95 books. I've actually read 25 of those in the month and half since I arrived in Australia - I guess I have a lot of time on my hands now that the wedding is over.
In no particular order, here are some of my favourites:
- The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas - This is a young adult book about a girl who witnesses her unarmed friend being shot by the police. I love the voice and it was a really powerful story.
- Don't Let Go by Harlan Coben - Harlan Coben is one of my favorite authors. This isn't my favorite book of his, but I always enjoy his work
- The Trickster's Lullaby by Barbara Fradkin - This author is from my hometown of Ottawa! This mystery is set in Canada, with a lot of Montreal, and it was really good! It's the second in the Amanda Doucette series.
- Evil Under the Sun by Agatha Christie - I was on an Agatha Christie kick after I went to an exhibit in London, and I love a good Hercule Poirot mystery
- Always and Forever, Lara Jean by Jenny Han - This is a teen book that is the third in a trilogy but I loved seeing what was next for Lara Jean. The main character is half white and half Korean and it's great to see more diversity in books
- The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid - This book was different than what I was expecting and I couldn't put it down
- The Perfect Stranger by Megan Miranda - This is another mystery/thriller. I don't really remember the ending, but I rated it really high so I must've liked it! Lol. I think it's time for a re-read
- Saints for all Occasions by J. Courtney Sullivan - This fiction novel is about Irish sisters who immigrated to Boston. I don't know where I heard about this book but I'm glad it ended up on my To Read list.
- The Perfect Girl by Gilly Macmillan - I loved that this one was set in England. I feel like now that I've lived there I understand the different terms. My aunt leant me this one and we both read it really quick.
- The Alice Network by Katie Quinn - A historical fiction novel with girl power. It had me looking up people and learning more about history. Very engaging.
I also have to give a shout out to Tiffany Haddish's audiobook The Last Black Unicorn. It is so funny and her deliver is hilarious!
