Exploring Melbourne - St. Kilda

Exploring Melbourne - St. Kilda

A few weekends ago we got up to some more exploring and decided to check out the St. Kilda neighbourhood.  This neighbourhood is known for lots of cafes and restaurants and a boardwalk lined by palm trees. Apparently after WWII, St. Kilda was known as Melbourne's 'red light district'.

The weather was perfect, sunny and warm and the weekend was off to a great start - except for one thing. Typical Tj, he lost his wallet on Friday. Somehow walking from a parking lot to a restaurant he must've dropped it. We had been checking online and saw that there were no charges to his accounts so we were hopeful it would turn up. The restaurant he went to wasn't too far from our place, so on  Saturday morning we walked over to check again. We asked around at surrounding businesses but no luck.

We took the tram a few stops and then walked to St. Kilda beach. Finally - I made it to the beach! We browsed in some of the shops along the main street, Fitzroy St, and then we walked along the beach and the pier. There were really nice views of the city. We didn't have our swim stuff, but it was a beautiful day so we grabbed a drink and appetizer at a restaurant beside the beach and people watched for a while. We will definitely be back to explore this neighbourhood some more - there are little penguins who come in to nest behind rocks after sunset and a small amusement park we still want to check out.

We took a tram and then walked the rest of the way home. It took us right through the neighbourhood where we probably want to live and I think we are even more convinced it's the right one for us. There are so many restaurants and cafes we want to try. We did a bit of shopping and Tj even picked himself out a Christmas present.

P.S. On the following Monday Tj got a call that someone had turned in his wallet at the bank, with all the cash in it and everything! It was our lucky day… kind of made up for the fact that someone had been stealing our wifi all month.
