Showing Lisa Around: Part 2
Happy Monday!
Tj has been extra busy at work lately, so it's been great having Lisa around to keep me company and to dissect the latest episode of the Bachelor! Here are a few of the things we've been up to:
Botanical Gardens and Albert Lake - We tried to plan out Lisa's last full week here to make sure she got to see and do everything that was on her list, but this day might have been a little ambitious. It wasn't supposed to be too hot, so we thought it was a perfect day for a long walk around the Botanical Gardens and Albert Lake. I forgot to warn her how much walking it would be, and after a few hours she was pretty tired. When we got to Albert Lake, there was one section where we didn't get 50m without stopping to sit on two different benches and the grass lol. It was kind of funny because we've been going to the gym together and Lisa can run and run and run for so long! But all the walking was making her tired. It was so pretty to just sit and watch though, and it's not like we had anywhere we needed to be. We took our time and sat a few more times on our walk around the lake. And when her feet got a little sore, I had a spare pair of flip flops in my bag. I've learned a long time ago to always take spare shoes, water, and a snack when I'll be out all day. Except I forgot sunscreen and I burned my nose. On the way home we stopped to pick up some of our favorite gelato as a reward for all the walking :)
Rooftop Bars - We went to a few pretty cool rooftop bars. The first rooftop we went to was kind of hidden - you have to take a really sketchy elevator up that has a warning sign - 4 people only or else you'll get stuck. It was girly with floral patterns and parasols. It's tennis themed, so all the staff were wearing tennis outfits. We had a pitcher of cocktails! Yummy. I'd love to take my girlfriends back here when they come to visit! Then we went to this other rooftop that has a really nice view of the city skyline. We didn't stay too long because we were getting pretty hungry. On the way out, there was a restaurant on the main floor and they have trays of sliced baguettes with different toppings. They are 50 cents each and at the end you bring up the toothpicks from all your sandwiches and they count up what you owe. We were just going to try one or two, but we ended up eating enough for dinner. They were delicious! Lisa wanted to sneak some sort of squid sandwich in her purse to take home for Tj but then they ran out (which might have been a good thing for her purse). We had a lot of fun that night and then went home to play more Dutch Blitz card game.
Sidney Myer Free Concert - On Valentine's Day we went to see a free concert by the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl, an outdoor music venue, similar to the Molson Amphitheatre in Toronto. It was awesome! The advertisment for the event said admittance is 'First Come, Best Dressed", which means it's first come, first served (I had to look it up - I've never heard that saying before). There were some food trucks along the side, and a lot of people sprawled out on picnic blankets all over the grounds. We got there just around intermission, so we managed to get a prime spot in the center, right at the front! It was such a fun night. They performed four pieces and the last two were accompanied by opera singers. I wish they had subtitles like the opera I went to in Prague haha. It was so pretty sitting there under the stars. Lisa even cried because she was loving it so much. It is her favourite part of her whole trip so far!
Have a great week!
