Road Trip!
I hope everyone in Canada is enjoying their long weekend! It's Family Day back home and this morning I was able to facetime my mom and cousins who are all together to eat and play games. Miss you!
Lisa left this morning and Tj and I are both so sad to see her leave! We have had an awesome few weeks are we are happy she was our first Australian visitor. She's already trying to figure out when she can come back again. She has been such a great help over the last few weeks, helping out with the move and keeping me busy while Tj has been so busy at work. She even left us her copy of Dutch Blitz.
On Friday one of Tj's old friends from when he studied in France arrived in Melbourne with his wife. They had rented a car and we were all going on a road trip! We woke up nice and early on Saturday to go to Twelve Apostles. When we were there a few weeks ago it was 42 degrees and so hot. The weather was much more reasonable this time. It was still super windy though.
Next we drove along Great Ocean Road to Lorne, a small beach town closer to Melbourne where we were going to spend the night. We walked around town for a bit. Tj and I needed beach towels. They are either super expensive (100$ for a towel?!) or reasonably priced but super cheap quality. I got the cheap ones, so we will see how they hold up. Everyone went swimming and frolicked in the waves except for me. It looked like lots of fun but I wanted to try and nap. We went for a nice dinner and walking home later I couldn't get over the stars. They were so bright and there were so many of them. Definitely don't get views like that in the city. We played Dutch Blitz all night and got our butts kicked by Tj's friends.
The next morning we went back to the beach. I went in the water with Tj and his friends while Lisa napped on the beach. The water was cold at first but the waves were so much fun. I hung back a bit, still cautious from Sorrento Back Beach a few weeks ago where I kept getting knocked down and lost my sunglasses. Tj and our friends weren't that far away from me. They went a little bit further and then all of a sudden our were a little bit further out than they wanted to be, and were having a bit of a hard time swimming back in. It was one of those things were it could've turned really bad or a wave could've pushed them in and everything would've been fine. Everyone stayed really calm and Tj was able to get the attention of some surf instructors nearby who quickly paddled out and helped our friends safely come back to shore. The lifeguards came out on a speedboat, but the situation was in control by the time they got there. I think we were all a little shaken up but relieved that everyone was ok. Lesson learned: don't go out too far and always swim in the lifeguard area!
We had an epic burger lunch at The Bottle of Milk. If you are ever in Lorne, you seriously need to eat here. Everyone loved what they ate and my veggie burger was terrific!
Then it was back in the car and heading off to our next destination! On the way we stopped at a golf course and saw some kangaroos!
Check in tomorrow for the rest of our road trip adventures! Spoiler alert: There will be blood!
