Showing Lisa Around: Part 1

Showing Lisa Around: Part 1

It's been a lot of fun having Lisa here the last few days! We are really trying to do more around the city. The title says Showing Lisa Around, but really we are trying to do new things that Tj and I haven't done yet (with the exception of the beach). It's been fun having someone to explore the city with. One of the cool things about having Lisa around is realising how similar she is to Tj. There are so many things I never noticed before. Like when we were driving to Sorrento last weekend, Tj put on a few random instrumental songs from movie soundtracks - and she knew all the movies they were from! Also, they both have to stop in every single sunglass store they see to look around. I usually wait outside for Tj, but now he has Lisa to browse at sunglasses with so it's perfect! haha

Here are some of the highlight of the last few days:

Watching the Super Bowl - The Super Bowl was on early Monday morning. We hadn't even thought about it, but we were at the gym and watching the halftime show on the treadmills when Lisa suggested we find a place to watch the rest of the game. We took our time and finished our workout. I didn't think it would be easy to find a place showing the game so early, but I thought of a bar down the street that has a nice patio. Luckily, by the time we got there the game was still on! There were just a few minutes left, but a few minutes of playing time stretched out long enough that we could enjoy the game and some nice mozzarella sticks and cold drinks! We enjoyed a nice walk around Prahran and picked up some gelato to take home for dessert (Tj ate most of it).

Brighton Beach - We went back to this beach on a weekend to enjoy the nice weather (with lots of sunscreen this time!). On the way we stopped for an ice cream stuffed donut. It was delicious! It was perfect swimming weather. I almost forgot to take of my sunglasses again but Lisa reminded me just before we got in the water. I can't lose my only pair!

Moonlight Cinema - We watched the movie  Pitch Perfect 3 outdoors in the Botanical Gardens. It was really fun! It cost 50$ for 3 people and we brought a picnic and drinks (you can bring alcohol too!). We brought way too much food but the picnic was delicious. We set up some blankets, but I was too lazy to carry pillows, which was a mistake. Also, it was a really warm evening, but it's freezing sitting on the ground, so next time I would bring an extra blanket. There weren't any bugs, and it was nice to hear the birds chirping and other nature sounds while watching the movie. At first I was afraid I wouldn't be able to hear but the volume ok. I loved it and definitely want to do it again this summer! The best part is they have a different movie almost every day of the week. And it was only a 20 minute walk home afterwards.

Shrine of Remembrance - This was really cool. The Shrine of Remembrance is the National War Memorial of Victoria. It was a very nice building, perched on the top of a hill. If you climb to the balcony you get a great view of the surrounding gardens and the city skyline. When you walk inside, there is a quote carved in stone on the ground, 'Greater love hath no man'. We learnt from the guide that the stone is actually about a foot below the floor level so that you naturally bow your head. The roof goes up like a pyramid of stairs, with a square at the top letting in natural light. On November 11 at 11:00am, the sun will pass a ray of light over the quote. They have a Ray of Light presentation every half hour that demonstrates what it looks like. The crypt in the basement is a museum of artifacts. Another neat thing was the registry where you can search war records for a service member by name and print a certificate of their service.

There is so much more we want to see while Lisa is here! Have a great Thursday :)
