Putting Down a Book

Putting Down a Book

Happy Friday!

This week has flown by! It's been great, but I've been a little tired. I think it's cause the weather is starting to get a little bit colder, and the days are definitely getting darker. The sun sets just before 6:00pm. This is a major improvement from London where it would be pitch black by like 4:00pm, but I miss the summer sunshine.

I shouldn't complain though. Tj was in Toronto this past weekend and they got hit with a storm. He said it made him appreciate Australia a lot more LOL. I think he was in shock. And he was only there for three days! Canada has been having winter for almost five months now! We've both gotten a little wimpy with the cold weather after living abroad the past few years.

I mentioned last week that I was starting a paperback book I had bought Tj for his birthday a few years ago. He likes space and is really interested in other planets and solar systems (he's strangely not into our solar system, he just wants to know what else is out there). So I did some research and found an award winning sci-fi book that sounded right up his alley.

I've been reading it for the past week or so and to be honest, it's been a struggle. I have less reading time since I have a short commute to work. I've mostly just been reading right before bed and on the weekends. But since I've been so tired I've been falling asleep really quickly, and I haven't been doing much reading at all.

And this book, I just don't know think it's for me. I haven't really getting into it and there is a storyline (involving giant spiders) that I wasn't expecting that is way too out there for me. I'm almost half way through it and I really think I might not finish it.

It's so hard for me to not finish a book. I always just want to know what happens! But I just got some other books from the library that I am much more excited about. And my uncle Rick once explained to me why he puts down a book if he's not into it (because why waste his reading time reading something he doesn't like). And it was so simple and clear to me and after that I was able to quit a book. I've only put down a book a few times, but there have been more times where I should have. I can tell right away if I'm going to get into it, but usually I keep reading just to see what happens.

This is a lesson I'm going to take forward with all my hobbies. Hobbies are supposed to be fun, not a chore. So I'm going to stop watching TV shows that I don't look forward to, or delete those Instagram accounts that I follow but just scroll past. Now that I have less free time I don't want to waste it. Even as I was writing this post I was thinking, maybe I'll just read a little bit more of the book and see if it gets better but I've just 100% convinced myself to put it down.

On to the next one! Have a great weekend :)
