Travel Throwback Thursday: Tuscany

Travel Throwback Thursday: Tuscany

Happy Thursday!

Time for another Travel Throwback Thursday! Can you tell I'm missing traveling?!

This was the first leg of our Italy-Croatia-Greece trip that I've been writing about these past few weeks. We went to Italy three times when we lived in London and it might be my favourite European country. We went to different regions every time and there were still so many cities I didn't get to see. Ok now Tj is saying we did Croatia-Italy-Greece, but I don't remember it that way at all?!

The main reason for this leg of the trip was to cross off a bucket list item for Tj - driving through the hills of Tuscany. Tuscany is a region in central Italy.

We flew into Rome and rented a car. We spent the first night in a little town called Soriano. The roads were so confusing getting into this little town. It was up on a hill and so pretty. We stayed in a gorgeous old hotel. The hotel recommended a restaurant for us the first night. It was closed for a private event but they found us a table. It was delicious but it was the atmosphere that really won us over.

When we walked around the town the next morning it felt like we were in a fairy tale. Very charming!

We went to Siena and got lost wandering the streets. I think we had gelato three times that day. Tj had really bad allergies and had to get eye drops. I have the funniest picture of him but I'm nice and didn't post it :)

We stayed at a beautiful villa that was recommended by one of my girlfriends. She had wanted to get married there but ended up going for her honeymoon instead. It was huge! I loved it because it was very old and had an antique vibe, but the bathroom was super modern. They had a great breakfast buffet and a really nice pool. My favourite part was watching the sunsets!

The next day was more driving around - Tj's favourite thing! He actually got pouty at one point because he just wanted to keep driving around Tuscany and I was like you are literally doing it right now LOL. We stopped in San Gimignano and explored and had more gelato. It's an old medieval town that was really cool. While were there Tj actually had an important call about the move to Melbourne - what a cool place to take a work call! There was an old man playing an accordion and it really set the mood of old Italy. I felt like I was on a movie set.

We had to drive to the airport (to go to Greece? I don't know?!) and we stopped in Portofino. It was so colourful and pretty but very touristy. It took forever to drive up the little road and find parking. We had a nice lunch that was definitely overpriced. We climbed up to a nice lookout to work off all those pasta carbs haha. We had one more little stop in Liguria but we didn't have much time there. Tj had to do something for work so it was the perfect place to stop for a coffee and gelato. Except Tj ordered an ice coffee and there was a language barrier and I don't remember what they gave him but he didn't finish it LOL.

I love Italy! What a great trip :)
