MEGAN AWAY

Slowing Down

Happy Tuesday!

My Monday at work was so busy! I like that though because the day flew by. Then there were train problems and it took me longer than usual to get home. I was standing on the platform waiting to squish on a train and feeling anxious to get home. It was dark out and chilly and every train going by was so full. I felt like I had a million things to do and getting home an hour later than usual was going to ruin my night. And then I thought to myself hang on - what am I really in a rush to get home to? The laundry and the dishes? The garbage that I need to take out?

I was able to instantly change my attitude. This delay was extra reading time!! When I get home it's still go-go-go and I usually don't read until bed, but now I had some free time! I scrolled through my phone and read a bit and when I squished on that packed train (I literally couldn't move an inch), well that was just time to listen to a good podcast.

In London I remember talking with one of my coworkers about how we just wanted it to be the weekend already. And he pointed out that it's a double edged sword because wishing for the weekend is kind of wishing your life away, wanting the days to go by faster. But there are some nights when I'm getting in bed and I think, I'm not ready for this day to be over! Even if nothing big or exciting happened, sometimes those regular days are special just because life in that moment is good.

While it's nice to have a routine, it's important not to get too caught up in it. Tj and I have the easiest life here - we don't have pets, or kids, or friends or family. Most of the time we have no obligations on our time. So why do I always feel like there's no time? I need to slow down and relax a bit! LOL, ok as you can read from the weekend updates, I do a lot of relaxing. But I'm talking about relaxing my attitude and slowing down my mind. Everything doesn't need to always be organised and go smoothly.

When I used to walk to work in Toronto, I used to try and notice something new everyday. I tried to be present in the moment and find something special. Even if it was a little bird hopping in a puddle, or a cool looking cloud. I need to do that more. If I've learned one thing from traveling it's that sometimes you have the best adventures when things don't go as planned.

So tonight I'm going to slow down. I'm not doing dishes or laundry or make my list of things I need to get done this week. I'm going to watch Madam Secretary with Tj and eat chocolate! Lol.

P.S. We had to turn on the heat tonight because it was cold! Can you believe it?!
