Long Weekend Update

Long Weekend Update

Happy Tuesday!

Tj and I had a great long weekend in Melbourne. We decided not to go away for the holiday but we wanted to make an effort to get out and about a bit more, since lately we've been taking it pretty easy (we've been lazy!).

On Friday night we went to the bar that's right across the street from us. The patio is right across from our balcony so it's loud in the summer if we want to leave the balcony door open at night for fresh air. But we decided to check it out properly for once. There was a dog in the bar. A big, Bernese Mountain Dog. Just hanging out. How awesome is that?!

Then we saw the new movie Ocean's 8. We are right next to a movie theatre which is very convenient, but movies are expensive! Before the movie, we picked up some chocolate and treats for the movie. Tj found Lindt chocolate covered blueberries that he is now obsessed with. He ate the WHOLE bag of chocolates. We got some popcorn and ate it all before the movie started! This always makes me laugh because when I go to the movie with my brother and cousin they never let me eat the popcorn until the movie starts but it's so hard! Obviously, I fell asleep in the middle of the movie, but I don't think for very long. I saw all the best parts (I'm assuming haha).

Saturday we were going to go downtown for dinner but then decided to just go to a restaurant nearby that we've been wanting to try. The wait was 2 hours (!!) so we put our names down and then went to a speakeasy across the street. It's a sandwich shop but if you go through a fridge door, there is a 'secret' bar in the back. I say 'secret' but there was a line up outside so it's not that secret after all.

Randomly, the sandwich shop sells poutine! I was so excited until I realized it's not real poutine - they squish bocconcini cheese and put it on top so it looks like cheese curds.

That. Is. Not. Poutine.

I was tempted but I'd rather wait for the real thing. The secret bar was super cute and I had a delicious cocktail that came with a burning lime!

Finally, we went back to the restaurant but they said it would still be about another half hour.

Forget that! It was almost 10:30 pm so most restaurants were closing. Instead, we started walking back home and picked up our favourite gelato on the way. Except we got a one-litre tub!  Haha, that was totally my fault. Then we stopped at McDonald's for all-day breakfast for dinner. Of course the restaurant called to tell us our table was ready when we were waiting for our takeaway. Too late. Oh yeah, and Tj bought another bag of those Lindt chocolates and ate them all again! Hahaha.

Sunday we went to the CBD and found a café next to the State Library where we could do some work. I mostly read since our laptop is broken. We found a place for a late lunch after and I learned that I do not like Asian dishes with peanuts. I ordered a dish that basically came with peanut butter sauce and then they put soya sauce on top of that. Lesson learned - I really really don't like that. Luckily I also ordered some really yummy tofu.

I don't know why, but we thought we were still a bit hungry and decided to go back to this other Chinese place around the corner that had had a big line up earlier. We were going to share a dish and Tj was going to get something else that he could take home later for dinner. Except the short line took forever. And as we waited we both realized we were actually pretty full. And then we got a table and ordered and it was taking forever and we were laughing because at this point neither of us was hungry. We took it all home for dinner but I was so full for the rest of the night.

Monday flew by and now it's back to work today.

Have a great week :)
