Happy Monday!

We have had a busy weekend here. Jacob arrived safely on Friday and adjusted pretty quickly to the time change. You can hear all about his journey on Wednesday when he does his first guest blog post! (We are still waiting for  Tj's guest blog post about his trip hahaha).

It was so great to come home from work on Friday and have Jacob and Tj waiting at home for me! And there were also a lot of goodies and treats from back home (including homemade fudge from Aunt Frances YAY).

Some of the highs (and lows) of Jacob's first weekend here have been the eating.

We had a terrific dinner on Friday night at Mr. Miyagi that set the bar pretty high. My favourite dish was the tofu bao and the boys loved the salmon nori taco.

On Saturday we went to Higher Ground. Luckily we didn't have to wait long for a table. This restaurant was so nice! I wish I could live in that space. The food was incredible. I had a kale and cauliflower salad with hummus, avocado and a poached egg. Tj and Jacob shared a minced lamb fry-up with fried eggs and sourdough, and an eggs benedict and they were both really impressed with their meals. Jacob definitely got to appreciate two things that Melbourne takes seriously - brunch and coffee. Higher Ground is now tied for first place for my favourite brunch places.

Shortly after brunch, Tj and Jacob went for dumplings at Shanghai Street. Tj and I have been obsessed with dumplings since we've moved here and now Jacob is obsessed too.

Saturday night was a MAJOR FAIL. We went out a little late and a few of the restaurants we wanted to try were closing. The second place we tried to go highly recommended a Chinese restaurant for us to try. They warned us that it wasn't aesthetically pleasing but we weren't worried. However, the food didn't live up to the hype and it was really disappointing, especially after our earlier meals. Tj and Jacob keep trying to blame me (falsely!) that we ended up there but it was after 11:00 pm and I was hangry! Hahaha.

On Sunday we were determined to make up for Saturday's less than stellar meal. Tj found us a new spot to try near the South Melbourne Market - Chez Dre. This was another knockout. I had an omelet and the boys each got the same special which they devoured.

Next stop was more dumplings. We went to our favourite Shandong Mama. I only had a few because I was still pretty full from brunch, but the boys ate a lot. Haha they actually ate so much that they didn't have dinner that night.

In between, we had lots of lattes and gelato and some grilled cheese from with my favourite fresh bread from Tivoli Road Bakery.

One bad meal isn't too bad, but with so many amazing options in Melbourne, it seems like a waste. We will have to plan better next time and make the most of Jacob's time here. And little brother is grown up - he's going to cook dinner for us this week! Do you think I can get him to do the dishes too? Hahaha.

Have a great week!
