Happy Wednesday!

Hope you are having a great week so far. Tj and I have been pretty busy! On Sunday night we went to the National Geographic Symphony for Our World at Hamer Hall in Melbourne.

This was an event that was perfect for Tj and I. I love animals and nature and Tj is really into instrumental music, especially when he is working. I had been looking forward to this for months!

The show paired National Geographic videos and photos with an original symphony performed live by a full orchestra and choir (read more about it here).

It started with an overture and had sections on the sea, sky, land, and mountains (and I think I'm forgetting some).

Things we loved:

  • In some of the video clips, I recognised a few photographers that we saw speak as part of the Nat Geo Live series when we lived in Toronto! Felt like we were old friends haha.
  • The music was incredible and the musicians are so talented (the finale bit was both of our favourites!)
  • The way they matched the photos and videos to the music was really cool.  In particular, I loved the wolves and the penguin parts.
  • They showed the beauty but also the destruction of our world and I think it's important to see the balance (it's not all just cute baby animals and glorious sunsets).

The one thing we observed was that the quality of some of the photos wasn't that great, and I swear they repeated some photos. Tj said this is inexcusable because they are National Geographic and they should have lots to choose from haha.

All in all, it was a great night out! Unfortunately, we didn't get a lot of pictures but we did manage to get a great one of Melbourne skyline on our way home.

You can see the first two minutes here (but just imagine live music!):  Watch the First 2 Minutes of Symphony For Our World | Symphony for Our World

I love that we live in a city that offers cool things to do like this. Not everyone's cup of tea I'm sure, but we really enjoyed it :)

  • Ticket price: 90$ each
  • Duration: about 2 hours
