Day Trip to the Mornington Peninsula
Happy Wednesday!
I hope you are having a good week so far. There is a heat wave in Melbourne and it is going up to 39°C later this week and in Ottawa, it has been -33°C with the wind chill. That’s crazy! I'm so wimpy now I can't even remember that kind of cold, but I like to scare people at work by showing them pictures of all the snow haha.
A few weekends ago when Dave and Lauryn were here we had a nice day trip to the Mornington Peninsula, about an hour's drive from Melbourne. We were pretty tired from a late night out on Saturday, but it was Dave and Lauryn's last day, and we really wanted to show them a little bit more of Australia.
Tj did some research and we went to the Rare Hare Wine & Food Store at the Willow Creek Vineyard.
Tj and Lauryn started with a wine tasting. I was a little hungry so we decided to share some appetizers. We waited outside for the restaurant to call us when our table was ready. It was a gorgeous sunny day and the scenery was spectacular. Vineyards are so pretty. They had some small tables and chairs and random bean bag chairs where people could wait and there was a girl playing acoustic guitar and singing barefoot. It was such a chill vibe. Just as we started getting too hot, we got our table inside.
I guess the food is pretty good there because at the table across from us was Nigella Lawson! I'd heard of her before but never would have recognized her on my own.
We saw the waiters take plates over to her table and we kept ordering the same things, but it didn't quite look the same when we got it. Our deli platter was only like half as full as her table's. Food and drinks were delicious (even if they were smaller portions) and then we were off to our next stop.
We drove about 46 minutes to Sorrento Back Beach (you might remember we took Lisa here last year!).
The boys went swimming and Lauryn and I were laughing cause they looked like little children playing in the waves. They kept rolling around and we thought they were just being silly, but they told us after that the waves were so strong they were being pushed around like that.
We hung out on the beach for a bit and maybe took a little nap. We were going to head to the Peninsula Hot Springs, but we ran out of time, so Tj and I will have to save that for another time.
I love exploring Melbourne but it's nice to get out of the city sometimes. There are so many great day trips within a few hours of Melbourne. When we went to Sorrento beach I kept saying how lucky Australians are to grow up with such quality beaches just a short drive away! Such an upgrade from Mooney's Bay hahaha.
Hope you have a great week and stay warm or cool, depending on where you are in the world :)
