Road Trip: Seal Rocks

Road Trip: Seal Rocks

Happy Wednesday!

I hope you are having a great week so far.

After a quick night outside of Sydney, the next stop on our road trip was Seal Rocks, a small coastal town in New South Wales.

This might be an unpopular opinion, but I hate long drives on sunny days. And not because I feel like I’m wasting a nice day, which I do, but mainly I just find it so uncomfortable. This trip reinforced that opinion. Hole-y it was hot in that car! The sun was just beaming down right on me, especially on this leg of the trip. The air conditioning was going full blast but it wasn't doing anything. Luckily for me, the drive to Seal Rocks was only about 3.5 hours, which felt super short.

The beach we went to was Number One beach. It was beautiful and there were a few dogs running around (which I loved!). There was one section of rocks that blocked the full force of the waves crashing on the other side where lots of kids were playing. Then a monster wave would come and the water would rush through and knock all of the kids over haha. The beach was pretty quiet, and I read on a few websites that Seal Rocks is a local gem that resists commercialisation. It was a perfect spot to stop and read and relax for a bit.

Here are a few things I learned about Seal Rocks online (from here):

  • The area was originally inhabited by the Worimi Aboriginal people

  • It’s known for good surfing beaches

  • The town was named Seal Rocks because seals used to live on the rocks haha

  • Since the lighthouse was built in 1875, there have been over 20 wrecks

  • The lighthouse was automated in 1987 and now you can spend a night in one of the three old lighthouse keepers' cottages (side note: Tj and I definitely didn't see a lighthouse)

On a side note, it's been a year since I lost my grandmother and not a day goes by that I don't think of Babi and Grandad. Especially when I wear ripped jeans haha. Or when I don't accessorise and I remember how Babi always dressed nicely. I used to beg her to tell me stories about my dad when he was a kid (I liked the one where he wanted a purse). She always knew who everyone was in old photos and remembered people from so long ago. I think it was at Babi and Grandad's 50th anniversary dinner and they took fire shots and I thought, hmm, my grandparents might be cooler than me lol. Love you and miss you Babi! RIP xoxo.
