Happy Friday!

I hope you are having a good week so far.

I am having major vacation withdrawals. We were only away for about 5 days and it was so relaxing I feel like I was gone for 3 weeks! Tj and I don’t have much planned for this weekend other than catching up on laundry trying to find a store that still has toilet paper.

In honour of Friday the 13th, today I am going to share some of my favourite scary books.

I generally don’t like being scared. I have a good imagination, so to avoid nightmares I’ve realised that I’m better off avoiding scary things.  I love crime fiction and thrillers and suspense novels, but I have a very low tolerance for horror movies.

I’ve rounded up some scary books that I’ve read over the years:

The Eyes of the Dragon by Stephen King - I’ve written about this book before. My dad gave it to me. I think it was so scary because it was one of the first books I read where a character was pure evil.

I’ll be Gone in the Dark by Michelle McNamara - I didn’t even finish this one because I got really scared that it was true crime depicting real events. I disappointedly told my friend who recommended it that it was too scary for me and she told me that she never finished it either because it was too scary for her too haha. That’s why we’re buddies :)

Make Them Cry by Kevin O’Brien - I read this back in 2011 so I don’t remember the details, but in general, I remember Kevin O’Brien’s books were scarier than other suspense novels I’ve read.

The Mermaid Singing by Val McDermid - I met this author at a book signing in London and I immediately read all the books in this Tony Hill series. This is the first book and I currently have her latest one on my shelf waiting for me!

Final Girls by Riley Sager - This book had me on edge. I read it recently and it was scarier than I was expecting, but I really enjoyed it and am making my way through other books by this author.

Live to Tell by Lisa Gardener - The beginning of this book completely hooked me. I want to re-read it just to see if it is still as impactful as it is in my memory.

Happy reading :)
