Prahran Market

Prahran Market

Happy Tuesday!

I hope you had a great weekend. I know in Canada the time changed so now I am only 15 hours ahead. I'm lazy so I just subtract 3 hours from my time and change am/pm haha.

It was Labour Day long weekend here so yesterday was a holiday. Tj and I had a nice weekend :) We didn't end up leaving the city, but I did make it to the beach on Saturday. It's Fall, but it was like 34 degrees out so I went to Brighton Beach for the afternoon. It was packed! The weather was perfect for swimming but there wasn't a cloud in the sky so I was applying sunscreen every ten minutes. I do not want to get burned again. Tj has been loving our new cable channels and I think he set a record with how many movies he has watched this weekend lol.

We have really been enjoying exploring our new neighbourhood. On Sunday morning we went for breakfast and then to the market. In Toronto we lived next to the St. Lawrence market, in London we were across from Spitalfields Market, and now in Melbourne we live just down the street from the Prahran Market. I guess we are market people :) Prahran Market definitely reminds me a little of the St. Lawrence Market or the Borough Market in London.

The Prahran Market is Melbourne's oldest market and has been in its current location since 1891! The market is open during the day on Tuesday and Thursday-Sunday. There are tons of different stands for anything you could want to eat - fresh fruit and vegetables, butchers, delis, seafood, specialty foods.  If you're lucky, some of them give out free samples! There is one fruit and vegetable stall where you can fill a box with as much produce as you can for 15$. There are also a few coffee shops and eateries all around the market. I've seen a lot of vegetarian, organic, and gluten free options. I've tried the gelato before, and Tj and Lisa shared a slice of Greek Moussaka that they raved about!

When we went this weekend we were looking to buy some flowers. I love having fresh flowers in my house. It makes me so happy every time I walk in the door. We also bought some Nashi pears to try. They looked like apples but tasted like pears. We should've bought more. Our best find was at an Asian market stall. Tj was picking up some spices and hot peppers and I found Maple cookies all the way from Canada! So random! We definitely bought those. Such a good treat now because it's Lent and I have given up eating chocolate so the cookies are perfect for when I am craving something sweet. The stall also sold mochi ice cream!! I tried this at Nobu duing my bachelorette party and loved it and then my friend told me you can just by it at the TNT grocery store haha. We are going to buy some next time when they have other flavours.

It's always fun to wander around the market and see what you will find. It was a great way to start our day which turned out to be quite busy! Right after we went to the market we joined a new gym, so I have a feeling our eating tour of Melbourne is going to slow down.

Have a great day :)
