Day Trip to Yarra Valley

Day Trip to Yarra Valley

I hope you had a great Easter weekend! I did an egg hunt for Tj on Sunday morning… I think it was his first one! It was fun but eating the chocolate after was more fun :)

Tj and I rented a car for the long weekend, and come Friday morning we still had no idea where we were going or what we were going to do. There are lots of cool things to check out within a few hours of Melbourne.

We packed a bag in case we decided to stay somewhere over night, got in the car, turned on the navigation app and started laughing because we still didn't know where to go. Finally we decided to go check out Yarra Valley. Yarra Valley is known for it's wineries, so we weren't sure if this was a good idea, because I don't really like wine, and Tj was driving lol. But it was only an hour's drive from Melbourne so it was perfect for a day trip.

We left a bit late, so by the time we got there it was late afternoon and a lot of places were closed for lunch. We also found that a lot of wineries were closed for the holiday.

We stopped for lunch at a pub in Yarra Glen and then went to the De Bortoli winery. It was gorgeous! It was sunny and warm and the vineyards were so picturesque. Tj did a wine tasting. You could try a tiny taste of all their wines for 5$, but if you buy a bottle they don't charge you for the tasting. Tj liked the Riesling and the Moscato, but his favourite was a Cabernet Sauvignon (haha do I sound a little bit like I know what I'm talking about?). We also bought some cardamom  coconut peanut brittle to snack on. They also do cheese tastings too which looked like fun. You can take your tasting outside, and they have picnic tables and a little park. It would be fun to go back with some friends and spend the afternoon.

We did a short drive to Healesville to check out some other wineries and restaurants. They looked really good but we weren't hungry for dinner yet. There were a few things we wanted to see that were closed, like the lavender farm and an animal sanctuary, so we will have to save those for another time.

We were going to drive back to Melbourne, but it was almost sunset so we thought we'd try and find a nice lookout. I googled a few and we drove up but I guess it was closed because there was a locked gate. We got out and took a few pictures… you can kind of see the sun peeking through the trees, but I was scared of snakes so we jumped back in the car haha. On the way back to the main road, we saw two big kangaroos hopping along! So cool! I wasn't able to get a picture but it was definitely one of the highlights of my day.

We drove five minutes to another nearby lookout that was also closed, so we gave up lol. We went back to the restaurants to have a bite to eat and a coffee before heading back home to figure out where we were going to go the next day! A great start to the long weekend :)

Have a great day!
