International Women's Day 2018

International Women's Day 2018

Today is International Women's Day, a day to celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women.

I am surrounded by so many strong, fierce women. I have some amazing grandmas and aunties, and cousins and girlfriends and my mom is the best! This summer she threw me a surprise tea party instead of a bridal shower and in her speech she said we were so lucky to have all these incredible women in our lives and it was so true! We should all give the women in our lives extra big hugs and kisses today and celebrate the accomplishments and sacrifices that have made it possible for us to  succeed and pursue our dreams.

I love Pinterest for all the inspiring quotes. Here are a few quotes by women I found that I thought would be good for today:

The women whom I love and admire for their strength and grace did not get that way because shit worked out. They got that way because shit went wrong and they handled it. They handled it a thousand different ways on a thousand different days, but they handled it. Those women are my superheroes.
— Elizabeth Gilbert
Many things can be achieved with effort, confidence and determination. Your goals are limitless. Go find them.
— Aunt Marlene
Don’t ever make decisions based on fear. Make decisions based on hope and possibility. Make decisions based on what should happen, not what shouldn’t.
— Michelle Obama
We do not need magic to change the world, we carry all the power we need inside ourselves already: we have the power to imagine better.
— J.K. Rowling
Embrace, experience, explore and enjoy all that life offers you. Follow your instincts, be aware of your surroundings and most importantly don’t be too set in your ways. Try everything!
— My Mom
Think like a queen. A queen is not afraid to fail. Failure is another stepping stone to greatness.
— Oprah Winfrey
We hold ourselves back in ways both big and small, by lacking self-confidence, by not raising our hands, and by pulling back when we should be leaning in.
— Sheryl Sandberg

I think every woman needs to read Sheryl Sandberg's book, Lean In: Women, Work, and the Will to Lead. One of my girlfriends recommended it to me, and I found it very inspiring!

Now, excuse me while I go shut off the lights and have a dance party in my kitchen to Beyonce's song - Who Run's the World - GIRLS!

Have a great Thursday :)
