Two Years in Melbourne

Happy Monday!

I hope you had a great weekend.

Last week was our two year Australian anniversary! That sounds so crazy to me! I feel like we just got here yesterday.

When I think that my total time in London was exactly two years, it seems crazy to think that we are still fully living here without plants move back yet.

When we first moved here we stayed in a temporary apartment next to a construction site for a new building. At that time, it was only a giant hole in the ground, still below ground level. Now, two years later, that hole in the ground is a luxury 50-story building! That’s nuts.

My girlfriend and I were just talking last week about how we get homesick for Ontario (she is living in Alberta). But I can get homesick and still appreciate living here.

Sunday afternoon Tj and I were walking around and I was brainstorming what I’d say about our time in Melbourne. He asked me if I still loved it as much as I did when we first moved here.

And the answer is obviously I love it more! Now we have friends and work, and a gym we love. I know where to go for the best chai latte, and which brunch place has the best french toast and where to get the best vegetarian dumplings.

Here is what I wrote for our first anniversary in Melbourne. From our answers below, not much has changed. It’s obvious to us why Melbourne is one of the most liveable cities in the world!

Tj’s favourite things about living in Melbourne:

  1. Food and coffee

  2. Weather (Melbourne weather might be four seasons in one day, but that’s still better than Canadian winter)

  3. Surrounding areas

My favourite things about Melbourne are:

  1. Restaurants

  2. Accessibility (we can get around so easily without a car)

  3. Events and activities -so many cool things to do.

This past year we moved to a new apartment and we are loving it. Lately, we have been adding some finishing touches so it really feels like home. We have lots of visitors lined up for the next few months and we have been planning our holidays.

Last year we wanted to travel around Asia - and we did. We went to Bali (Tj went twice!), and Vietnam and then Tj went to Japan.

This coming year our we really want to make sure we see more of Australia and New Zealand. I also want to make sure we explore more of Melbourne and the surrounding areas!

Have a great week :)

P.S. One month from today is Christmas!
