Bali Trip 2020: Where we ate
Happy Tuesday!
I hope you had a great weekend.
Saturday in Melbourne was rainy and freezing. This has been the coldest summer since we moved to Australia. I had a chill all day that I couldn’t shake. I would so not be able to handle Canadian winters anymore. Sunday made up for it and it was the perfect summer day. I baked cookies and then we had a barbecue and watched some bad (but so good) reality tv - Married at First Sight. It was the perfect end to the weekend.
I am still on such a high from having such a nice trip with my family a few weeks ago. This was my second time in Bali, and Tj’s third. We went for Christmas 2018 and then Tj took his parents there last year. We were really excited to take my family - none of them had ever been to Asia before.
We went to Bali for five days, and we stayed in two areas - Uluwatu and Canggu. Unfortunately, I am still waiting for my family to share their trip pictures, so today I’m going to share everywhere we ate on our trip.
You can read about where we ate the first time we were in Bali here.
The first time I went to Bali I was really nervous about what I would eat but I didn’t need to worry. Bali has incredible food. Seriously it is so good. There are so many vegetarian and vegan options and all the food is fresh and colorful. The restaurants are all decorated so stylishly and the food is always presented very beautifully. I know my mom was nervous about finding stuff to eat but she loved it all.
I would highly recommend everywhere we ate (seriously, no meal was bad):
Mana Uluwatu Restaurant and Bar - we went here to watch the sunset! It was our first night and we were all a little tired from our travel day, but we arrived just as the sun was setting and it was pretty spectacular. The tacos were delicious too. I think the winning dish was the taco salad.
Suka Espresso - this was everyone’s favourite breakfast of the whole trip! It’s an Australian style cafe so the coffee was good and the food was yummy. If we would’ve stayed longer in this area we would definitely have been back again.
La Baracca - We had a lovely dinner in the back courtyard. The pasta was so good. It had a very charming vibe, but the food was so good.
Single Fin - We went here to hang out for a few hours on the day we switched accommodations. The food was ok, but I would go back for the views! We watched surfers as we ate and it was a lot of fun. Some of them were so good.
Milk and Madu - We went here for dinner and had such a good time. There was live entertainment with a singer accompanied by a guitarist. This girl was such an amazing singer. I wish we had gotten there earlier so we could have listened to her longer. She was very talented. It was a really fun environment and we all enjoyed our meal here. We probably ordered too much food haha but there was so much we wanted to try!
Crate Cafe - We came here for breakfast. It was sooooo busy! You order and then get a number and find somewhere to sit. We found a spot outside and it was a little too hot for me… I kept having to go in the shade or stand in front of the fan. The food was really good, but the highlight for me was my vegan iced chocolate drink - OMG! It was incredible.
Mamasan - We went to Seminyak one night for dinner. Tj and I ate here last time we went to Bali, but this time was even better than I remembered. This was probably Pete’s least favourite meal, but they have a secret vegetarian menu and the miso tofu was a surprise hit and definitely one of my favourite dinners of the trip!
Milu by Nook - There was one day where we had breakfast, lunch, and dinner (takeaway) here. They had a variety of food on their menu, with Australian and Asian options, which made everyone happy. In my opinion, this was the prettiest restaurant we went to. It overlooks a rice field which makes for a stunning view, but the whole restaurant is decorated beautifully. And look at that fruit salad! Come on.
We also ate at some beach clubs when we hung out there all day, but I'm going to write about that separately.
Now I’m hungry and missing my family and Bali haha.
