Birthday Getaway!
Happy Monday!
I hope you had a great weekend. Last weekend, Tj and I enjoyed a nice little getaway to the Mornington Peninsula with some friends to celebrate my birthday and my friend's birthday the week before.
We left just after lunch on Friday, and came back to Melbourne Sunday afternoon, so it was short but I feel as relaxed as if I just had a week off. Tj and I actually did a day trip here for his birthday back in January, so it was nice to come back for mine.
Friday night we barbequed and played a very competitive game of Dutch Blitz.
We started Saturday off at a café down the street, Merchant & Maker. Then we took a long walk along the beach to check out the pier.
For lunch, we headed to the picturesque Portsea Hotel. We weren't that hungry, but the food smelled delicious, so we all ended up ordering something to eat haha.
After hanging out for a bit, we stopped by the Sorrento Back Beach to enjoy the views. The boys were tempted to jump in for a swim, but when they saw the only few people who were in the water were wearing wetsuits, they decided it was probably too cold.
We headed back to the Airbnb for a late afternoon nap. When we all woke up, we decided to go to dinner at a place Tj found called Steam. We were going to play a few rounds of Dutch Blitz before dinner, but the risk was too high that we would just keep playing all night haha.
We had the best meal at Steam. The service was great and the food was delicious. It's banquet style, so they shared 4 small plates and one large plate. And of course, I had my own vegetarian options that everyone had to help eat, except I opted for a dessert instead of an extra small plate.
Everything was sooo good. It's fair to say that we were all stuffed when we left and the pregnant one wasn't the only one waddling back to the car haha.
When we got back home we were going to play our game, but everyone ended up falling asleep. We will have to save the rematch for next time.
On Sunday morning we checked out of the Airbnb and went for coffee and a small bite at a cafe. Tj and I split a pastry and everyone raved over the coffee.
Next, we wanted to show our friends some of the wineries in the region. We went to Polperro where they did a wine tasting and then to Rare Hare at Jackalope, where we stayed for lunch. We’ve actually been here before with some friends a few years ago so we knew the food would be delicious and there would be a great view.
Finally, it was back to Melbourne. The drive is only about an hour and a half, but we broke it up by stopping for coffee and then doing short stops to check out some beaches and stretch our legs along the way.
We got back home fairly early on Sunday. It was only a few days away, but I felt as well-rested as if I’d just had a week off. It was a perfect weekend getaway!
Big thanks to Tj for all the planning he did to make it so special.
