Christmas in Melbourne

Christmas in Melbourne

Christmas Eve we went shopping in Melbourne CBD. We wanted to explore some of the lovely laneway cafes and restaurants. There were a lot of people out and about. It didn't really feel like Christmas time to us because it's summer. We had a great lunch and picked up a few little things. We thought we had pretty much decided what part of town we want to live in but we realised this area has a lot to offer. We went to the Victoria Market which we had heard a lot about. Unfortunately we  got there right when it was closing so we didn't have much time to look around. Tj got an awesome deal on a bunch of steaks though. Then we had to rush home to get them in the refrigerator.

It was our first Christmas being married and it was really nice to spend the whole day with each other. Usually on Christmas we hardly see each other because we are so busy spending time with our families, so it was a nice treat. We had a little tree and watched Christmas movies. I made a huge breakfast. In the afternoon we went for a long walk around the Botanical Gardens. It was a beautiful day! The gardens were packed with families having picnics. We wish we would've thought of that! There was a restaurant nearby we wanted to stop at for a coffee and tea, but it was closing for the afternoon so we went to 7-11 and got an ice coffee and slurpee. We spent a lot of time facetiming our family members and I got a little sad to be so far away. We made a big feast for dinner. I made mashed potatoes and vegetarian stuffing. I always look forward to stuffing  every year but I think I need to find a better recipe. The one I've tried the last 2 years always comes out a bit too salty. By the time we went to bed it was just Christmas morning in Canada so we could send out some more Merry Christmas messages.

On boxing day we went shopping in South Yarra and Prahran. We weren't really looking for anything, just wanted to check out the sales and see if there were any good deals. We stopped for brunch at the most delicious café - I had the best Soy Chai Tea Latte I've ever had! I've had some really yummy ones since we've been here but that one was so good! I will definitely go back there. We talked to more family back home and watched more Christmas movies.

It was a quiet, relaxing few days for us and a very special Christmas just the two of us in Melbourne. We are already starting to think of what we might want to do for Christmas next year!
